Throughout its history, PlayStation has welcomed many exclusive franchises. Naturally, some continue to this day, while others have been left in the realm of memories. One of the IPs that is missing in action without any signs of life is Resistance. Will it ever return? It's impossible to know, but the community certainly hopes so.
Resistance is a series that was born from the acclaimed studio Insomniac Games during the PlayStation 3 generation. The first installment, Fall of Man, debuted in 2006 and was successful and popular enough to spawn 2 sequels and a couple of spin-offs for handheld consoles.
After the release of Resistance: Burning Skies in 2012, the franchise has remained in a prolonged slumber with no apparent chances of making a comeback. Although it never reached the popularity levels of titles like Call of Duty or Battlefield, it created a loyal fanbase over the years that still awaits its return.
Fans request PlayStation to save Resistance
A couple of days ago, Reddit user KylerRamos turned to the PlayStation subreddit to ask the community whether Insomniac Games or another studio should develop a new installment of the series for PlayStation 5. Not surprisingly, the response was overwhelmingly positive.
In the comments section, dozens of users affirmed that the IP deserves a comeback. Some believe that a new title is necessary, while others would settle for a remaster or remake of the classic entries.
"Yes, it was a franchise that had brilliant ideas," commented one user. "I think enough time has passed, and with the updated technology and its unique weapons, I believe it would have enough to stand out from [other games] in the market. We could have a new PS exclusive FPS with a great campaign and multiplayer," wrote another fan.
Referring to the recent agreement signed by Microsoft and Sony to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation platforms for at least 10 years, some players believe that the Resistance saga should be revived to compete against Activision Blizzard's successful military saga.
At the time of writing, KylerRamos' post has received more than 1500 upvotes and 271 comments. While some believe that Insomniac Games already has its hands full with superhero projects, others remain optimistic and hope that this or another studio will take charge of the franchise.
According to a recent report, Resistance 4 was canceled due to its thematic resemblance to Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.

But tell us, do you think this franchise deserves to return? Let us know in the comments.
