An attractive update for the console is on the way

Sony confirmed this morning that they are already preparing a new and attractive update for PlayStation 5. The interesting thing is that the update will come with very striking novelties, such as support for more storage and new features related to audio and accessibility.

It is important to emphasize that these additions will be available first to selected players from some countries, who will be able to participate in the Beta. Sony explained that the update will arrive at some point this year for all users of their console, but there is still no defined date for its release.

PlayStation 5 offers a 3D audio experience thanks to Tempest 3D AudioTech, which, with the next update, will be compatible with televisions, soundbars, and other audio systems with Dolby Atmos. This will ensure better audio and a higher level of immersion.

On the other hand, there is good news for players who wanted more storage space on their console. This is because the next update will activate support for up to 8 TB M.2 SSDs. Currently, the storage limit is 4 TB, so it will be doubled.

Sony will also add improvements to accessibility features, making it possible to use a second DualSense as an assistive peripheral to operate a single PS5. This way, players will be able to enjoy games collaboratively, as if playing with a single controller. This will allow players to help their friends overcome specific parts of a game or set up a console. Additionally, the haptic functions of the controller will now be compatible with the console's menus.

Another new feature will allow users to mute or adjust the volume of the sound the console makes when turning on, turning off, or entering rest mode. The company is also preparing improvements to various social features of PlayStation 5. Below, you can find some of the confirmed novelties for now:

  • Users will be able to invite a player to a closed group without automatically adding them to the group or creating a new group. Additionally, players can now send invitations to open or closed groups instead of only individual players.
  • When someone shares their screen in a group that you can join, you will now see a preview image of their shared screen even before entering the group.
  • You will easily be able to see which of your friends are in an activity that you can join in the Friends tab.
  • You can see how many tournaments you have entered and your highest rank achieved, as well as the start time of the next tournament. You can also view the complete list of tournaments.
  • It will be possible to add reactions to messages with emojis, making communication with friends faster and easier.
