Accounts with Pokémon content are reportedly getting banned on Instagram. The Pokémon community, known for its enthusiasm worldwide, naturally has a strong presence on social media platforms, including Instagram. However, it is known that using content from the successful franchise outside of its authorized limits can be risky, as The Pokémon Company is strict with such usage. This has raised concerns among content creators who share Pokémon-related material on Instagram.
What's happening with the bans on Pokémon creators' accounts on Instagram?
According to various reports, there has been a wave of bans against Instagram accounts that upload Pokémon content in recent days. The first reports came from the community of The Pokémon Trading Card Game, where players informed their fans that their Instagram accounts received bans from the platform, though it was not specified if this was due to their Pokémon-related content.

After some days of caution, I returned to my original name. At least here in Twitter I haven't seen accounts being taken down for having Pokémon names in their nicknames. However, I'll continue taking precautions on Instagram. https://t.co/EuvCFhTTH6
Subsequently, other Instagram users and members of the Pokémon community reported that their accounts were also banned. In some cases, the punishment was reversed, but for others, it remained in place. Some creators are considering changing their accounts as they fear the decision may be permanent and related to their use of copyrighted Pokémon material.
On another note, a report from VGC indicates that most of the banned accounts shared Pokémon content that could be categorized as family-friendly. Additionally, these content creators have been part of official events organized by The Pokémon Company. However, a common factor among these bans appears to be the use of links leading to third-party sites. Certain creators have sponsorships or commercial relationships with other websites, which might have triggered alarms at Instagram.
