Sony revealed some time ago its plans to take advantage of the potential of the cloud through PlayStation Plus and PlayStation 5. In fact, some players can already stream the titles they have purchased in digital format just by having a Premium subscription to the service.
This is made possible by the fact that cloud gaming on PlayStation 5 has arrived in Beta and is now available to selected users. According to reports, the service works well and outperforms Xbox Cloud Gaming and the former PlayStation Now in one section.
PS5 already allows to play own or PS Plus titles in the cloud
In the future, all PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will be able to enjoy their favorite games in the cloud. They will be able to run titles from the PlayStation Plus catalog or those in their digital game collection.
Beta testing of the service has already started in some regions, so we know a little more about this new feature. Users noticed an interesting detail, as cloud gaming on PS5 allows running games at a maximum resolution of 4K.
This caught the attention of many gamers who used PlayStation Now or enjoy Xbox Cloud Gaming, as those services have a maximum resolution of 1080p. We know that the service on PS5 also supports 720p, 1080p and 1440p resolutions.
Thanks to the Beta, we also know that the PS5 feature supports a select list of titles for now, and that gamers can retrieve their cloud saves with the service. It's currently possible to enjoy third-party games like Fortnite, Fall Guys and Resident Evil Village. It is also compatible with exclusives such as God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, among others.
As we mentioned, the feature is still in the testing phase and for now there is no exact date for its general release.
