Final Fantasy VII Remake, the new version of the 1997 classic, debuted for the PS4 in 2020 and a year later arrived on PC. Unfortunately, Xbox users are still eagerly awaiting a port for Microsoft platforms. Will it ever become a reality? It's hard to say, but disappointment knocked on the door once again.
As part of Father's Day celebrations in Brazil, the official Xbox account in that country shared an image depicting the paternal side of some characters. Interestingly, the collage included Barret, one of the main characters of Square Enix's JRPG.
Although the post was quickly removed, screenshots began circulating on social media and forums. This situation led the community to believe that Microsoft was hinting that Final Fantasy VII Remake is on its way to Xbox consoles. There was also the possibility that it was a simple mistake, of course.
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE ON XBOX? MICROSOFT SHARES DISAPPOINTING NEWS
Unfortunately for thousands of fans, the second theory turned out to be true. In a statement to Eurogamer, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the image that appeared on Xbox Brazil's social channels was published in error and features a title not available for Xbox.
Will the Japanese role-playing game ever come to Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S? It's impossible to know, but a port is now more possible than ever. During the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Las Vegas, Phil Spencer, head of the brand, announced that the successful MMORPG will be available for Microsoft platforms in 2024.
Also, both Phil Spencer and Takashi Kiryu, CEO of Square Enix, reaffirmed on the stage of the event their commitment to collaborate closely on "future games."
While Final Fantasy VII Remake is absent from Microsoft's ecosystems, we must remember that its prequel, Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion, is indeed available for Xbox.
