Denuvo is one of the most widely used protection and anti-piracy systems on PCs. Irdeto's product is no stranger to controversy, as it has been accused of affecting the performance of games in different ways. Now, Switch users are somewhat worried, as the tool will now be used in games for the hybrid console.
In case you don't remember, in August 2022, the arrival of DRM to Switch and its games was announced. After months of work, Irdeto already released the necessary tools that will be available to developers working on titles for Switch. The reality is that this is being done for a good reason and you shouldn't worry about it.

Why is Denuvo coming to Switch games?
Through a statement, Irdeto reported that its protection tools have already been approved and are available on the Nintendo Switch developer portal. So, interested studios will be able to incorporate Denuvo into their games with a specific goal: to combat PC emulation.
As you probably already know, Nintendo has been fighting emulation on Switch for years, especially since certain titles have been leaked and playable first on PC than on the console itself. Developers will now be able to use Denuvo to combat this practice and make their Switch titles unable to be emulated on PC.
"By blocking unauthorised emulations on PC, studios are able to increase their revenue during the game launch window, which is the most important period for monetisation. The Nintendo Switch Emulator Protection will ensure that anyone wishing to play the game has to buy a legitimate copy," Irdeto said.
The company stressed that its tools will in no way affect the experience or performance of the games. For such reason, Irdeto stated that gamers who purchase its titles and enjoy them on Switch have no reason to worry.
We're thrilled to announce that our top-tier protection technologies are officially accessible as authorized #NintendoSwitch middleware on the #Nintendo Developer Portal! 🎮🛡️
