Starfield Yet to Debut, But Already the Best-Selling Game on Steam; Overtakes Baldur’s Gate 3

Bethesda's new RPG has taken the top spot from Larian Studios' game

Ever since its announcement, Starfield has captured attention and become one of the most anticipated releases in recent years. The good news? The wait is almost over! Excitement is in the air, and many players have already turned to Steam to purchase their copy and get ready for the launch.

In mid-August, we mentioned that Bethesda's ambitious new RPG had made it onto the list of best-selling games on Valve's platform. At that time, it had reached the 3rd position, not counting free-to-play titles. Thus, it was only trailing behind the acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Steam Deck.

As we slowly but surely approach its launch, the space exploration game has climbed a couple of steps to reach the top of Steam's charts. Yes, it has surpassed one of the most popular games of the year.

Starfield Already Triumphs on Steam

According to reports, Starfield is the best-selling title on the Valve platform in the United States, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Baldur’s Gate 3 in the second and third positions, respectively. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon occupies the fourth spot, while Dead by Daylight claims the fifth position.

According to the Steam chart, Bethesda's new RPG is also the top-selling game worldwide. It's hard to know how many copies have been sold already, but it's undeniable that it's on track to be an impressive success. Ultimately, its official release is set for September 6th and will be available at no additional cost on Game Pass from day one.

"Honestly, it's wonderful that games like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 are coming out. My only problem is that I don't have enough time to play both," commented a fan on Reddit. "This is probably the busiest year I've experienced in terms of video games," another assured.

While enthusiasm for Starfield is soaring, there is a portion of the community that is concerned. Specifically, some players have raised eyebrows about supposed "invisible walls" limiting exploration, while others fear it might be a "progressive" game with a political agenda.

But tell us, do you think the RPG will be a sales success? Do you believe it will surpass the popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3 and other 2023 releases? Let us know in the comments.

Starfield will be available on August 31st for players with early access, while the rest of the users will have to wait until September 6th.
