[Baldur’s Gate 3 took the world by surprise with its official debut in early August, quickly becoming a strong contender for Game of the Year. While PC fans are already enjoying it, PS5 users will have to wait until September 6th. That being said, when will it come to Xbox?

After a back-and-forth situation, Larian Studios has finally confirmed that the acclaimed RPG will debut on Microsoft's next-gen consoles at some point this year. Due to hardware limitations, the Xbox Series S version will have to make a sacrifice: dropping split-screen functionality.

With only a few months left until the end of 2023 and the start of a new year, the question remains: When will Baldur’s Gate 3 release on Xbox platforms? Larian Studios discussed this in an interview with IGN.

Larian Studios reaffirms that Baldur’s Gate 3 will debut on Xbox this year

When asked for a estimated release date, Director Swen Vincke commented that the port for Microsoft's consoles will arrive as soon as possible and jokingly mentioned that the year is coming to a close. Additionally, he confirmed that the company's priority is ensuring the release for PS5 and the latest patches for the PC version.

"We're in 2023 and the year is narrowing down, so in my book, that's pretty accurate. Somewhere between September and November. So, as fast as we can honestly. The Xbox Series X version was already in pretty good shape last time I saw it, and we're just going to say, 'Alright, what's left to do?'" the director stated.

While he acknowledges that there are still testing processes to go through and plenty of things to be done to finalize the ports of Baldur’s Gate 3, Swen Vincke believes that from a technical and content perspective, they are very close to achieving it. Regarding the Xbox Series S version, he mentioned that the studio will still work to try and add split-screen functionality.

"It ran before, so it shouldn't take too long. It doesn't mean we're going to stop trying to get split-screen to work, because, like I said, the team is still optimizing all platforms because we really want to hit 60 fps across the board," stated the co-founder of Larian Studios.

Finally, the director confesses that he would like to reduce the minimum requirements for the PC version so that more fans can play Baldur’s Gate 3 on their systems; however, he recognizes that it's a complicated task.
