Final Fantasy XVI confirms it will have DLC

Naoki Yoshida explained that they made this decision to satisfy the fans

Before Final Fantasy XVI debuted, the project's lead, Naoki Yoshida, mentioned that the development team had no plans to release DLC... for the time being, or perhaps Square Enix's plans were different, as it has just been confirmed that the game will expand with new content.

"We are asking players to pay the full price for this experience, so we want it to be one that is worth the amount of money that players are going to pay, and we want them to have the satisfaction that equals what they paid for or more," Yoshida commented in an interview in May 2023.

Why will Final Fantasy XVI have DLC, and how many will there be?

However, he never ruled out the possibility of expanding the project through DLC, but at that time, they weren't thinking about it because he and his team wanted to finish the development of the complete original game.

Today, after weeks of its release, it seems the team is ready to talk about DLC, as Yoshida confirmed in a video that the game will indeed offer more content through 2 pieces of DLC.

According to Yoshida, this decision is in response to the team's desire to satisfy fans who want to "know more about Valisthea" and "spend more time with its inhabitants," something they typically see in feedback.

When will the Final Fantasy XVI DLC be available?

Yoshida did not confirm if the DLC will be paid, but everything indicates that players will have to pay, as the creative director referred to the content as DLC and not as an update, in addition to it being expected to be of much larger scale.

Final Fantasy XVI debuted a few weeks ago and is one of the best releases of the year. With that said, it's no surprise that Square Enix wants to capitalize on the player base's interest, so the DLC plans were expected to materialize sooner or later.

New free content is now available for Final Fantasy XVI

Not everything is paid DLC. Yoshida took the opportunity to announce surprisingly that Final Fantasy players can now find new content in the game through a free update.

According to the details, this update includes a new weapon feature that allows the player to change the appearance of Clive's weapon while retaining the characteristics of another; in other words, it's for cosmetic purposes.

Additionally, this update offers an alternate outfit for the protagonist Clive, as well as for Jill, Torgal, Ambrosia, and Joshua.

Finally, the update implements some control modifications, as users had requested in their feedback.
