Devs of Quantum Error Blame Xbox Series S; Say That Version of the Game Is "Unacceptable"

Xbox Series S and its limitations continue to be a topic of consideration, and in recent months, there have been high points due to situations like the one with Baldur's Gate 3. While the expectation is that everything developed within Xbox Game Studios ensures that games look good on the less powerful console, the problem arises with some third-party developers who have encountered challenges or additional work that they do not favor. Recently, the developers of Quantum Error criticized the console.

Devs of Quantum Error Are Not Happy About Working with Xbox Series S

During an interview with Gamingbolt, TeamKill Media, developers of the cosmic horror game Quantum Error, revealed that the version of this title for Microsoft's less powerful console represents separate work. Initially, Micah Jones, co-founder of the studio, pointed out that the studio is making an effort to ensure that the game runs and looks good on Xbox Series S but anticipated that 30 frames per second would be the limit: "You have to build your game specifically to run on Xbox Series S to get those specifications with techniques used in lower-end hardware. If we can achieve an optimized and graphically acceptable port of Quantum Error for Xbox Series S above our current tests, it will be at 30 fps. We've all played some phenomenal games at 30 fps. But in this current generation, if the graphics look blurry and fuzzy, it greatly diminishes the experience in our opinion."

Quantum Error on Xbox Series S Is in an "Unacceptable" State

Subsequently, the executive expressed his frustration at having to create a different version of Quantum Error for Xbox Series S from a technical standpoint: "For us and our studio, the idea is not to develop games for lower technological specifications. This is partly why I've been a gleeful little kid about what I can do with Quantum Error using Nvidia technology for PC. But then Noah (Jones, another co-founder of TeamKill Media) is relentless about performance, so we balance each other out. Our minimum specifications for the PC version won't go below the specifications of the PS5 and will push the 4090 as hard as we can."

Finally, the executive stated that the version of Quantum Error for Xbox Series S is in an "unacceptable" state, so they cannot release it in its current condition, although they will continue working on it: "We're still not 100% sure; the Xbox Series S version so far works, but it works very poorly, the frame rate is very low, and the resolution is extremely blurry. We'll keep working to see if we can improve things, but the current state of the game is unacceptable."
