Bethesda's new RPG generated high expectations

The wait is over! Starfield has finally arrived in stores, and thousands of fans have already embarked on this epic space adventure. While there are no official figures yet shedding light on its commercial performance, everything points to it being a resounding success for its creators.

This week, Xbox's Phil Spencer and Bethesda's producer Todd Howard made a brief appearance on the CNBC news channel to discuss the official launch of the new science fiction RPG.

Starfield is already the most successful exclusive for Xbox Series X|S

When asked if he expects Starfield to boost sales of Xbox Series X|S consoles and Game Pass subscription services, Phil Spencer stated that there is high demand for the role-playing title. He indicated that it is already the most-played exclusive game of the current generation for the company.

On the other hand, the head of Microsoft's gaming division also affirmed that the space-themed RPG is the most wishlisted Xbox and Bethesda game on Steam in the history of the platform.

“Well, we definitely see a lot of demand for the game. You know, it just came out in early access, and we've had more players than any other next-gen exclusive so far in this generation (...) It's the most wishlisted title we've had between Bethesda and Xbox on Steam. So, there's a lot of momentum, and big game launches are a lot of fun. It's great to be part of it,” said Phil Spencer.

During the interview, Todd Howard expressed his excitement about the game's release. He also pointed out that Bethesda's games remain popular "for years and years" and used The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as an example, a title that debuted in 2011 and still garners attention.

Finally, the interviewer emphasized that this is an exclusive title for Xbox consoles and PC, so he questioned whether it will ever arrive on more platforms. Phil Spencer responded that the game is available for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Cloud Gaming, so thousands of players will be able to enjoy it.
