Activision threatens to sue Call of Duty player for facilitating access to Verdansk

The most popular map in Warzone has been unavailable for years

One issue with games as a service is that beloved content can vanish forever. Such is the case with Verdansk, the first and most beloved map in Call of Duty: Warzone's history. That's why a fan took it upon themselves to enable players to play there again; however, Activision has now threatened to sue them.

Through social media, HeyImAlaix, a popular Call of Duty dataminer, revealed that they received a letter from Activision. In it, the company sent a Cease and Desist letter requesting that they abandon their project aimed at reviving Verdansk. In the same letter, they accused them of distributing cracked versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

"Alexis, we have learned that you have been promoting and distributing a cracked version of MW2019, and you may have been involved in its creation. We are also aware that you are distributing the MW2019 Crack alongside a pirated version of MW2019 game files," the dataminer received in the letter.

Why did Activision threaten to sue this player?

As mentioned earlier, HeyImAlaix was working on making previous versions of Warzone playable. This way, players could enjoy private matches in Verdansk to reminisce about the early months of Call of Duty: Warzone. According to Activision, this damages their brand, and they decided to take legal action to "preserve and protect Call of Duty and the incredibly talented developers who create it."

What do you think of this situation? Do you believe Activision should provide an official way to revisit Verdansk? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 is already available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
