Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service, will soon have ads. This was confirmed by the company through a statement, where it explained its plans to add advertisement to series and movies starting in 2024.

This measure will affect several countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany and the United States starting early next year. The bad news is that, months later, the measure will be applied in other countries such as Mexico, Spain, France and Australia. There will be an alternative to continue watching series and movies without ads, but users will have to pay more.

In its statement, Amazon assures that it has invested heavily in Prime Video over the past few years, which has allowed it to offer quality content to all its users. For this to continue to be possible, it will add commercials to its series and movies.

It assured that its service will have fewer ads than a broadcast TV channel and other streaming services. It also pledged not to make any changes to Amazon Prime membership prices during 2024.

That said, the company will offer a new Prime Video plan free of ads. We know it will cost an additional $2.99 USD on top of current prices.

"We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month for U.S. Prime members and will share pricing for other countries at a later date. We will email Prime members several weeks before ads are introduced into Prime Video with information on how to sign up for the ad-free option if they would like," Amazon commented.
