Marvel's Spider-Man took the world by storm in 2018 and quickly captivated thousands of fans of the character. That's why a portion of the community raised eyebrows when Peter Parker underwent a face change in the 2020 remastered version. The topic is still making headlines with the imminent release of the sequel, but one voice actor is tired of the controversy.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, Yuri Lowenthal, who voices Peter Parker in Insomniac Games' video games, once again addressed the controversy surrounding the decision to change the main character's face.
"Get Over It," Says Yuri Lowenthal, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Actor, About Peter's New Face
During the conversation, the voice actor stated that he's a bit tired of talking about the issue because everything that needed to be said has already been said. He understands that some people will take longer to get over it, while others never will, but he believes it's time for the controversy to be put behind.
"The performance was the same for me. I got over it as soon as they said, 'Hey, we want to make this change so that the facial animation is better.' And I said, 'I'm totally in!' I don't care if [Peter Parker] looks like a goblin, as long as my performance is better than what it was," Yuri Lowenthal commented.

Despite being tired of the controversy and criticism over the protagonist's new face, the actor believes there is a positive side. Specifically, he thinks the reason people got upset about the change is because they emotionally connected with the character in the first game. "That's great... now get over it!" he concluded.
Why Was Peter Parker's Face Changed in Marvel's Spider-Man?
It's important to remember that the face change occurred in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered, the enhanced version of Insomniac Games' title that debuted on PlayStation 5 in 2020.
At that time, the developers argued that the decision was made to achieve better facial capture and, consequently, make the actor's performance more noticeable.
"To deliver the best performances to players in our next-generation Marvel's Spider-Man games, we have recast the face of Peter Parker," Insomniac Games stated.
Interestingly, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 faced a similar controversy this summer. Fans criticized the new appearance of Mary Jane; however, James Stevenson, the director of community and marketing at the studio, denied fan theories and confirmed that the same model was used.

But tell us, what do you think of this controversy? Do you like Peter Parker's new face? Do you prefer the original? Share your thoughts in the comments.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be released on PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.
