Five Nights at Freddy's: The Movie Will Have Something That Nobody Expected

The production aims to be more than just a simple adaptation of a viral video game

Five Nights at Freddy's is an incredibly popular video game franchise. That's why its adaptation into the world of cinema has generated a lot of anticipation from fans and newcomers alike. Many expect it to be just another video game movie, but new information suggests that it will actually be something that very few anticipate.

As our friends at Tomatazos report, the production team behind Five Nights at Freddy's wanted to do more than just replicate the story of the first game. While they aim to stay faithful and ensure that fans feel comfortable with what they see on screen, the reality is that the creative team also had something to say.

In fact, there was recently an interview with Teresa Sutherland, a screenwriter who didn't work on the film but knows Emma Tammi, the director of Five Nights at Freddy's, closely. During the conversation, Sutherland revealed that Tammi wants to contribute her talent by creating a deeper and more human story, something that surely few expected from Five Nights at Freddy's.

"What Emma is bringing to Freddy's is exactly the story you want, like a very human story in that film. I know there will be style there. There will be something deeper than you imagine. We can think of this kind of adaptation," Sutherland said in an interview with MovieWeb (via Tomatazos).

Why Will the Five Nights at Freddy's Movie Be Deeper Than the Game?

Now, why will the Five Nights at Freddy's movie have the opportunity to tell a more human and profound story than the video game? There are several reasons, but one of them lies in the most significant change to its storyline.

If you've played Five Nights at Freddy's, you know that in the first installment of the series, we control Mike Schmidt, who must survive the animatronics' thirst for revenge at the fast-food restaurant where he works. That won't change in the movie, but what will be different is that he won't be alone.

It turns out that in the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, Mike Schmidt will face a bigger problem. Not only is his life in danger, but his sister, Abby, is inside the pizzeria. This adds greater urgency to the protagonist, who now has the mission of saving the life of someone close to his heart.

As a result, the relationship between Mike and Abby will allow us to explore a more human side of the protagonist. It will also portray him in a deeper way, allowing us to learn more about his life outside of the restaurant.
