RUMOR: Xbox to Have Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI

Goodbye Console Exclusivity for PlayStation?

In recent years, under the leadership of Phil Spencer, Xbox has rebuilt relationships with Japanese publishers and developers. One of the top priorities is Square Enix, but the experience has been up and down. However, this could change radically, meaning that the vast array of video games from the Japanese company in recent years might indeed come to Xbox.

Xbox and Square Enix Working to Release the Latest Final Fantasy Games on Microsoft Platforms

According to a statement by Jez Corden on the Xbox Two podcast (journalist at Windows Central and one of the most reliable sources in the industry), the reality between Xbox and Square Enix could be very different in the short and medium term. According to his sources, Square Enix is preparing to launch its major video games on Xbox, and that includes Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy XVI, titles that have remained exclusive to PlayStation consoles and only consider PC as a secondary option... for now.

Regarding this, Jez Corden stated: "Initially, I thought it would only be games like Octopath Traveler 2, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, maybe Final Fantasy XIV. I don't think it's going to be any of the heavyweights like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Rebirth, Final Fantasy XVI. But I've heard that it might actually be all the full releases. So, I'm hearing positive things about that, so stay tuned. It's going to take time because those games haven't been in development, but maybe they are now."

It's worth noting that Square Enix has experienced a financial crisis in recent years, and exclusive deals with PlayStation don't seem to be enough to keep the company afloat. After reports indicated disagreements between Xbox and Square Enix due to low sales of their franchises on the Microsoft platform, resulting in only a few releases, it seems that everything will change, and the most important titles from the Japanese company will indeed come to Xbox after all.

Also, one cannot ignore Phil Spencer's visit to Japan for the Tokyo Game Show 2023 and the recent announcement that Final Fantasy XIV will come to Xbox, indicating a renewed relationship with Square Enix. Similarly, the head of Xbox has hinted that there will be important news about this in the future.
