Kotick hints at the return of Guitar Hero; made possible by Microsoft's acquisition

The company's director held an event a few days before the acquisition is finalized

Unless a meteorite impacts Earth, the purchase of Activision Blizzard King by Microsoft will be finalized on Friday, October 13, and the involved companies are already looking towards the future. Recently, Bobby Kotick did the same in a meeting with employees, where one of the highlighted topics was the possible return of Guitar Hero, the successful music video game franchise that conquered the world over 15 years ago.

Kotick celebrates Microsoft's upcoming purchase and surprises with Guitar Hero statement

A report from Jez Corden, a journalist at Windows Central, cited internal sources that provided details about a meeting held by Bobby Kotick with Activision Blizzard King employees in the context of Microsoft's imminent purchase. Initially, the event was considered unusual as it was a kind of performance directed by actor James Corden, known for his role as Smithy in the British series Gavin and Stacey. Questions and answers, as well as comments, were pre-reviewed and approved by Bobby Kotick.

According to the information, the CEO of Activision Blizzard King highlighted technological advances in AI and machine learning, but what caught attention was how many times he repeated how this could be applied to a franchise like Guitar Hero.

Will Guitar Hero return with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision?

In that regard, Kotick stated that Microsoft's technology would make the resurgence of Guitar Hero possible. He made this statement while referring to the next 10 years of Activision and its plans: "A lot of what I've seen at Microsoft is research and development in areas that are extraordinary. So, being able to harness their capabilities in artificial intelligence and machine learning, data analytics, new ways of thinking about graphics, I just see unlimited potential for what we do. We're in a unique position as a company because we have the best franchises of all video games. The resurgence of Guitar Hero and other things wouldn't be possible without different kinds of resources. And so, you know, the infinite possibilities for the future are incredibly exciting."

This way, even though nothing is official yet, it seems that the Guitar Hero franchise will transition from being inactive to a potential return in the coming years, now as part of the biggest deal in the history of video games: Microsoft + Activision Blizzard King.
