For over 10 years, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been the most successful multiplayer FPS on Steam. After a long time, it's time to turn the page and move to Counter-Strike 2, a new version that serves as a sequel and brings improvements to the overall core experience. Unfortunately, the change means that potentially thousands of people will be left without access to the game.
Valve turned to the Steam forums to share news that disappointed a portion of the community. The company announced that support would be suspended for old platforms, specifically DirectX 9 and 32-bit Windows operating systems. Similarly, Counter-Strike 2 will be incompatible with macOS. In the statement, Valve explains that users playing on those platforms represent less than 1% of the active CS:GO player base.
Thus, Counter-Strike 2 is and will be an exclusive experience for users playing on a Windows and Linux 64-bit ecosystem.

Can Players on 32-bit Windows and macOS Not Play Counter-Strike?
Although users with incompatible hardware will miss out on enjoying Counter-Strike 2 and its improvements, they can still play CS:GO on their current platforms.
Valve confirmed that users on macOS, 32-bit Windows, and DirectX 9 can access a legacy version of CS:GO, which has all the features of the original title except for official matchmaking. However, support for this port will end on January 1, 2024. What does that mean? Essentially, some functions, such as inventory access, might experience issues.
Of course, this news will be disappointing for users expecting to play the sequel. Fortunately, the company will offer refunds to those affected by this decision.

How to Request Refunds for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive?
Users of DirectX 9 and 32-bit Windows are eligible for a refund for the Prime update if they made their purchase between March 22, 2023, and September 27, 2023.
On the other hand, macOS users can demand a refund if they primarily played CS:GO on an Apple platform and tested the game between March 22, 2023, and September 27, 2023, representing the period between the announcement and the official release of Counter-Strike 2.
Players have until December 1, 2023, to request a refund.
But tell us, are you one of those affected by this decision? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.
