Recently, the case of a 38-year-old man allegedly harassing a 28-year-old woman went viral. According to information provided by local media, part of the harassment against the victim took place in Final Fantasy XIV, the popular MMORPG by Square Enix.

According to reports, Japanese authorities arrested a Tokyo resident on October 17, 2023. He is accused of directly violating Japan's Anti-Stalking Law by sending 22 threatening messages to the victim, asking her to talk to him and not ignore him.

Supposedly, the man repeatedly followed the victim's in-game character in Final Fantasy XIV[/i without her consent while sending messages. He continued this behavior even after the woman had blocked him. According to reports, he threatened her and mentioned contacting her family to reveal their previous private conversations.

The malicious behavior also extended beyond the MMORPG, according to reports. Allegedly, the 38-year-old man harassed the woman and sent messages on social platforms such as X | Twitter and Line, a very popular instant messaging app in Japan.

The individual denied some of the charges and claimed not to have romantic feelings for the victim. However, local police assert that his actions violate Japan's Anti-Stalking Law.

Further details of this case are unknown, so it's a mystery whether the suspect received a sentence.
