The Last of Us is a franchise that, while inspired by zombies, presents them with an interesting twist that makes its proposal somewhat different. However, representatives of the zombie genre share many similarities, as an example, consider the sequel to a blockbuster movie starring Brad Pitt.
Of course, we are talking about the continuation of World War Z, a film that debuted in 2013 and is based on Max Brooks' novel.
While Paramount Pictures announced in 2014 that they would release a sequel, the project had no production date or director. Although creative director David Fincher expressed his interest in directing, there was never a deal with Paramount Pictures, and in the end, everything was put on hold. However, years later, Fincher officially became the director, but for one reason or another, the project was repeatedly delayed until Paramount Pictures decided to cancel it due to budgetary reasons, as well as a loss of momentum.
Sequel to World War Z Was Going to Have Similarities to The Last of Us
Fincher revealed that the sequel was going to be "a bit" like The Last of Us, so in a way, he felt relieved that the project never materialized.
"I'm glad we didn't do what we were doing," the creative director expressed in an interview with GQ, aware that the project had "a lot more room to explore the same thing."
What's most interesting is that Fincher confessed that for the title sequence of the sequel, they would have used a "small parasite" similar to the fungus that The Last of Us on HBO used for its opening sequence, as well as in the explanation of the Cordyceps in a TV show style in the first episode.
In case you missed it: Actor strike worsens, further delaying Season 2 of The Last of Us.
