Highly anticipated Star Wars video game could be delayed until 2025

The era when major productions in the video game industry were released in just a couple of years is a thing of the past, as development processes have become more demanding, and realizing studios' ambitious proposals takes time. This means that the release windows or dates for the AAA games we eagerly await are not set in stone, and delays can happen at the most unexpected moments, as could be the case with a major Star Wars game.

Ubisoft decided to delay a "major video game" for financial reasons

During their quarterly financial report presentation (via VGC), Ubisoft revealed that they have chosen to delay a "major game" as part of a strategy to extend what appears to be a good short-term financial period. According to the French company's information, the positive results and trends it has achieved in the first half of the current fiscal year are enough to keep them in good shape from now until March 2024. With this in mind, Ubisoft has decided not to release that "major video game" in this period but will push it to the next fiscal year to extend the good financial performance.

Star Wars Outlaws may debut as late as 2025

Although Ubisoft did not reveal the title in question, opinions are unanimous that it refers to Star Wars Outlaws, an ambitious open-world title developed by Massive Entertainment that surprised with its announcement, concept, and progress.

However, considering that this is a huge-scale title, and the development process is likely to be complex, Ubisoft's announcement has been met with some pessimism because initially, Star Wars Outlaws was set to launch sometime in the next fiscal year, which is between April 2024 and March 2025. Given that several AAA projects from major companies have not met their release dates, it is expected that the same might happen with Star Wars Outlaws, and Ubisoft may decide to play it safe for a release in the first quarter of 2025. However, official accounts and project materials still state "available in 2024" at this time.
