Microsoft Gaming CEO thinks big after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King

Microsoft's recent acquisitions in the video game industry have raised concerns about a potential monopoly attempt. However, the company stated that the status of their recent purchases in terms of franchises and releases would be reviewed case by case, and in cases where cross-platform availability is a big business, they will not make any changes. The idea of the Xbox ecosystem is related to this because the brand also sees itself as a publisher for its former major competitors, PlayStation and Nintendo.

Xbox's Perspective Beyond Its Consoles

In an interview with Famitsu magazine, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, considered that the Xbox community has become huge today, not only measured by those who own their consoles but also by those subscribed to Xbox Game Pass and now by those who will receive the video games that are part of their publishing companies and development studios.

All platforms and companies can be part of the Xbox community

Regarding this, the head of Xbox mentioned that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard will allow them to grow as publishers, and they are excited about the idea of bringing their video games to other platforms, including PlayStation and Nintendo: "Without Activision Blizzard, we would still be a major publisher on Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo. With Activision Blizzard in the mix, we can offer more games to more platforms. As I mentioned earlier, we believe that Xbox is a community, so we can invite them to be part of it from a variety of different platforms. I've been asked about the Activision Blizzard IPs we will remove from PlayStation, but we won't take anything away from them. Xbox is a gaming community, so it's meaningful to build it on different platforms, adding to its strength and brand. So, we're thinking about how to respond flexibly."

Based on the above, Phil Spencer stated that the perspective of Microsoft Gaming is that PlayStation and Nintendo players will be part of the Xbox community by playing the titles that are part of its ecosystem: "I'm very excited and enthusiastic about what the future holds. In terms of hardware, I believe it's not just a matter of adapting to what other companies are doing but also providing something unique for Xbox users. Just as we think of ROG Ally and Steam Deck as part of the Xbox community, we must also think of the many Nintendo and PlayStation users as part of the Xbox community in the future."
