Gohan reaches new limits in the battle against Cell Max

Although the Dragon Ball Super anime concluded in 2018 after airing 131 episodes, the adventures of Goku and company continued in two theatrical movies and in the monthly manga written and illustrated by Toyotaro, the successor to Akira Toriyama. And yes, the story has reached a significant point.

The manga continues with the events of the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Although there were interesting changes throughout this adaptation, the overall story remains the same. Finally, one of the franchise's strangest and most powerful transformations has appeared.

Before we continue, it's worth noting that we will discuss key points from episode 99 and the general storyline of Toyotaro's manga.

Beast Gohan Appears in the Dragon Ball Super Manga and is Now Canon

The latest chapter picks up the fight against Z-Warriors and Cell Max. Piccolo, who also gained a powerful transformation as a result of a wish from the Dragon Balls, stood before the villain to try to put up a fight.

Although aware that he doesn't have enough power to defeat the bio-android created by the Red Ribbon Army, the Namekian fights to buy time and allow Gohan to gather energy. Unfortunately, the plan encounters difficulties.

After Gotenks, Krillin, Android 18, and Gamma 1 intervene in the battle, Cell Max keeps them all at bay. Then, the villain attacks Piccolo, launching a ki blast before hitting him with a devastating energy ball.

Faced with the idea that his friend and mentor lost his life in the battle, Son Goku's son becomes enraged and unleashes all of his power. Thus, Beast Gohan is born.

Just like in the movie, the hybrid Saiyan attacks Cell Max and showcases his new abilities. Later, it's revealed that Piccolo survived the attack thanks to Gamma 1's intervention.

The last panel of chapter 99 of the Dragon Ball Super manga shows Gohan, who charges a powerful Makankosappo to defeat the villain once and for all. If the story remains faithful to the movie, this arc will conclude in episode 100.

What is Beast Gohan?

Since the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the new transformation of Son Goku's son has sparked much discussion due to its bizarre design and raised many questions. Although details about its origin in the lore remain a mystery, Akira Toriyama spoke about the idea behind the design.

The original creator of the franchise explained that he named this new transformation "Beast Gohan" to emphasize that the Earth warrior awakened his inner beast.

"For the design, I tried to draw him with a frightening face and pale skin, but somehow he didn't look like Gohan. So, I gave him the usual big hair pulled up, which surprisingly suited him well," revealed Akira Toriyama.

It is speculated that this new form puts Gohan on a level similar to that of Goku and Vegeta. Thus, the transformation is one of the most powerful, especially when considering that this character does not train regularly.
