The Xbox One had a challenging start but left us with great titles during its initial phase. One of them is undoubtedly Killer Instinct, the reboot of the classic fighting game. Fans are in luck, as developers shared exciting news for the future.
As part of the 10th-anniversary celebrations, Iron Galaxy hosted a live stream discussing the future of competitive gaming. In addition to a rebalancing patch that promises to alter the meta, a new version and other novelties are on the way.
Announcement of the Anniversary Edition and Free-to-Play Version of Killer Instinct
The development studio confirmed the existence of the Killer Instinct Anniversary Edition, a new version of the 2013 modern classic that will be available for consoles and PC on a yet-to-be-confirmed date. It will cost $29.99 USD and include the complete roster of 29 fighters, premium content, and other benefits such as a double XP VIP booster and Christmas accessories.
This new edition of the fighting title will replace the Definitive Edition, which will no longer be available. However, Iron Galaxy confirmed that owners of the old version will be able to upgrade to the Anniversary Edition for free.

It's worth noting that the Anniversary Edition does not include extra content such as developer interviews, conceptual art galleries, and ports of the first 2 franchise installments. Nevertheless, players who purchased the Definitive Edition will still have access to that material.
"Remember: everything you bought previously will remain in your library, and you will still have access to it," confirmed Iron Galaxy in the official statement.
The free-to-play model of Killer Instinct will expand and be available on all platforms, namely Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Windows and PC). Players opting for this free version, now representing the base game, can participate in local and ranked matches.

The free version of the fighting game will feature a rotating fighter that changes every week.
But tell us, what do you think of this initiative? Do you believe Iron Galaxy's project can make a comeback? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.
