The studio's priority is Counter-Strike 2, what will happen to the previous installment?

With over 10 years under its belt, [Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is easily one of the most popular FPS games in recent history. Therefore, it caught attention when Valve announced and officially released Counter-Strike 2, a new version that introduces improvements and substantial changes. Now, what will happen to the original release?

At the beginning of 2023, Valve confirmed the rumors and revealed Counter-Strike 2, a new title that, although serves as a sort of sequel, is actually a new version of CS:GO that introduces many changes to the formula and enhances the technical aspects, but retains the same core.

The official release came as a surprise in September of last year. The studio took the opportunity to discuss the future of the title that debuted in 2012.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has stopped receiving support, what will happen to this game?

Through a statement on Steam, Valve confirmed that the new title will be incompatible with MacOS, systems with DirectX9, and 32-bit Windows operating systems. Additionally, they announced that players can still play a Legacy version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Thus, players who wish can continue playing CS:GO instead of Counter-Strike 2; however, there is some bad news. The studio confirmed that this version will stop receiving support starting from January 1, 2024. This means it will remain unchanged and will no longer receive improvements or new content, as the focus is on the new installment.

Additionally, Valve confessed that the Legacy version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will have the same features as the original title, except for official matchmaking. Since it has stopped receiving support from the beginning of this year, certain functions, such as inventory access, may degrade or present issues over time.

In short, CS:GO will no longer receive updates and may, over time, experience problems. That said, players who wish can still play this version instead of the new installment that debuted at the end of last year.

But tell us, do you prefer the 2012 title or the 2023 sequel? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.
