Starfield plummets on Steam; has fewer players than Skyrim and Fallout 4

By now, it's clear that Starfield was one of the most controversial and divisive video games of 2023. Although it received good reviews at launch, fans were decisive in their criticism of elements such as loading screens, visual aspects, empty maps, and more. This dissatisfaction is reflected in the Steam statistics.

The RPG from Bethesda debuted in early September with considerable success. It broke player records on Xbox Game Pass and gathered over 200,000 concurrent users during its early access period. Additionally, it features on the list of best-selling games from the previous year.

Fallout 4 and Skyrim have more players than Starfield on Steam

Although it had a good start, it seems that a portion of the community is starting to abandon the project. This is somewhat normal considering it is a single-player experience, but it's noteworthy that previous titles from the studio are more popular.

Starfield achieved a peak of 11,182 simultaneous players on Steam in the last 24 hours, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, the enhanced version of Bethesda's acclaimed RPG, reached 22,269 concurrent users. Fallout 4 also didn't lag behind, as 16,770 people played it during the same period.

As reported by PCGamesN, Dave the Diver, the acclaimed title developed by Mintrocket, had more players than Starfield on the morning of Thursday, January 11. If we observe the Steam Charts graph, we will notice that the sci-fi RPG has been losing users since its release in September.

However, it's essential to qualify this information. Both The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 are older games, meaning they are on sale more regularly, and more players can try them. On the other hand, Starfield is also part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog, meaning that Steam data is only part of the story.

Nevertheless, it's undeniable that Starfield failed to captivate all players and fans. At the moment, it has mostly negative reviews on Steam. Bethesda is already working on new content set to arrive in 2024 and beyond. Hopefully, the reception will be more positive in the coming months.
