Craig Mazin talks about the possibility of a Bill and Frank spin-off

The Last of Us survived skepticism and became one of the best series of 2023, with 8 Emmy awards and other accolades[/url]. Season 2 is a reality and will begin production soon, but some fans wish for a spin-off focused on a couple of beloved characters from the show. Unfortunately, it seems that it will never happen.

The live-action adaptation of Naughty Dog's video game received widespread praise, but one episode stood out: A Long, Long Time, which tells the love story of Bill and Frank in the post-apocalyptic world. Since its premiere, it has been criticized for its openly LGBT+ content.

Despite the detractors, the third episode went down in history as one of the series' best on HBO Max. Therefore, it's not surprising that many fans want to discover more about the lives of these characters. Although the idea is interesting, it seems it will never come to fruition.

Craig Mazin, producer of The Last of Us, talks about the Bill and Frank spin-off

During a recent interview, Nick Offerman, who played Bill in the TV show inspired by The Last of Us, discussed the possibility of a spin-off focused on his character and Frank, and even claimed that the project was proposed and could be a musical. "We are not lacking ideas. We'll see what Craig and Neil come up with," he said.

These statements excited fans hoping for a prequel or a spin-off that delves deeper into the lives of these characters. Of course, they also sparked many rumors. Unfortunately, producer and writer Craig Mazin debunked the theories and put an end to speculation.

In a conversation with Deadline at a post-Emmy party this week, the creative affirmed that Nick Offerman was joking when he talked about the Bill and Frank spin-off. Thus, he indicates that there are no plans to produce something focused on that character duo.

"I am very proud of the episode we made with Bill and Frank. There won't be more of them. Nick just joked about a prequel; that was kind of a joke. We are very happy with what we achieved," commented Craig Mazin.

When does production for The Last of Us Season 2 begin?

Regarding The Last of Us Season 2, the showrunner confirmed that the injury to Pedro Pascal, which caused the actor to wear a sling during the recent award ceremonies, will not affect the workflow. In fact, production is expected to start in early February.

We know that the new episodes will adapt, at least, a portion of the franchise's second video game. Recently, HBO and Naughty Dog confirmed the actors who will portray Dina, Jesse, and Abby Anderson, characters that play a crucial role in the story.

But tell us, would you have liked to see a prequel or a spin-off of Bill and Frank? Let us know in the comments.
