Overnight, Palworld skyrocketed to the top and became the world's most popular video game. Although the community is thrilled, the first problems have quickly surfaced. Reports from players indicate that there are malicious actors who are cheating and ruining the experience for others.
Hackers and Cheaters Invade Palworld
In forums, the community revealed that the popular survival title is already suffering from the misdeeds of malicious players. One user mentioned that hackers have invaded official servers and "do as they please," ranging from increasing weapon damage to ensuring a 100% capture rate.
Some even report that cheaters gain administrator privileges and prohibit access to servers. At this point, the scale of the problem is unknown, but Pocketpair has already addressed the issue and stated that they will take action to protect Palworld users.
Through its official communication channels, the development studio announced that the next update will eliminate some cheats and exploits; however, they acknowledged the difficulty of completely preventing cheating immediately.
"We will apply a patch as soon as it's ready, but currently, it is challenging to completely prevent cheating. We will focus even more on security and aim to create an environment where everyone can play with peace of mind. We sincerely apologize to all players who were affected by this incident," the company said.
Is Palworld at Risk?
Unfortunately, it seems that Palworld could be at risk if the issue is not addressed promptly. Xyrem, a member of the anti-cheat organization Anti-Cheat Police Department, told IGN that the Pokémon-inspired video game lacks an anti-cheat system.
The expert states that everything done in the game is through the client, meaning the server does not verify any of those things. Thus, cheaters can create items and manipulate statistics like speed, damage, health, etc.
Xyrem warns that it is crucial for Pocketpair developers to take immediate action, as otherwise, cheaters could become a very serious problem.
"I think this is the early stage of Palworld, so it's crucial to implement these things as soon as possible so they don't hinder other players' experiences. It's better to deal with [cheaters] first before a hacker epidemic occurs," said the expert.
