An insider suggests that Sony is working on a new version of the Naughty Dog title

For better or for worse, remakes and remasters are part of the video game industry. In recent years, we've seen re-releases of classic titles for modern consoles. Now, a new rumor suggests that one of the most celebrated exclusives on PlayStation could make a comeback with a new version.

Looking back, PlayStation 3 offered a great catalog and was home to games that later became successful franchises. It's impossible to talk about its legacy and relevance without mentioning the Uncharted series, which began in 2007 with its first installment.

The future of the franchise remains a mystery, and it is unknown whether the adventurer and treasure hunter Nathan Drake will embark on new adventures with a sequel. It seems that all of Naughty Dog's attention is on a hypothetical third installment of The Last of Us and a new IP, but the action franchise could return in the form of a remake.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune could have a remake, according to insiders

During the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast, host and insider Nick Baker, also known as Shpeshal Nick, revealed that an anonymous source provided him with "evidence" that indicates Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the first installment in the series, could have a remake for PlayStation 5.

The informant further stated that his co-host, Jon Clarke, also independently received information that seems to corroborate this rumor. Although he claims that it is "being seriously considered," he emphasizes that there is no guarantee that the new version will exist and be released.

Similarly, the studio working on the hypothetical remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is unknown. "We received this information independently of each other, and it doesn't mean it's going to happen 100%," commented Shpeshal Nick. Therefore, it is recommended to take these statements with caution and wait for Naughty Dog or Sony to share official information.

If we look at recent history, it's not unreasonable to think that this 2007 game could have a re-release. According to Sony's data, remasters are a commercial success despite player criticisms.

On the other hand, in the past, we've seen enhanced versions of many Naughty Dog games: from the recent The Last of Us Part II Remastered to the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection from 2015, a special collection that includes the original PS3 trilogy.

But tell us, would you like this classic game to return with a remake? Would you prefer to see a completely original sequel? Let us know in the comments.
