The action game developed by SHIFT UP will debut this year on Sony's next-gen console.

Exclusivity in the video game industry always sparks controversy, as there is often debate when a highly anticipated game is announced to be available on only one platform. Stellar Blade, the eagerly awaited action title developed by SHIFT UP, couldn't avoid this conversation. In cases like these, it's impossible not to wonder why it will only be available on PS5.

If we go back in time a bit, we'll remember that Stellar Blade, previously known as PROJECT EVE, was announced as a multiplatform project. In its reveal trailer in 2019, the developers aimed for a release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro, and Xbox One.

Disappointment hit Xbox players in 2021 when the South Korean hack-and-slash game was one of the highlights of that year's PlayStation Showcase. At that time, it was revealed that Kim Hyung-tae, the executive director of the studio and the creative mind behind the project, bought a PS5 for each employee of the company.

Shortly thereafter, during the State of Play in 2022, it was confirmed that the action title would be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with no signs of a release for other platforms. With this in mind, why did the studio choose Sony's next-gen console?

Stellar Blade is a PlayStation 5 exclusive for this reason

In an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu (translated by Gematsu), the project leads discussed the reasons they decided to launch the game on PlayStation 5, beyond a third-party agreement with Sony.

"I felt that I wanted to release a high-quality game on a single platform. And then, when it came time to decide on the platform, I determined that PlayStation 5 would offer the most optimal gaming experience," commented Kim Hyung-tae.

Dongi Lee, technical director of Stellar Blade, complemented the response and highlighted the adaptive triggers of the DualSense and the fast loading of Sony's console, elements that allowed for an increased sense of player immersion.

Finally, director Kim Hyung-tae shared a much more personal reason for choosing that hardware. He explained that the PlayStation brand holds special meaning for him as a player, and releasing a game on that platform was a dream he had since childhood.

"I loved video games even before the appearance of PlayStation, but I didn't have much money at that time. It was only when PlayStation was released that I really started playing. So PlayStation played a significant role in shaping my personal values about games."

But tell us, do you think this game will ever come to Xbox or PC? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments.

Stellar Blade will arrive on PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024.
