Nintendo shares fall due to Switch 2 and rumored delay to 2025

Reports claim new console will take longer than planned to arrive

During the last few days, several reliable sources have claimed that Switch 2 will not arrive this year as Nintendo decided to delay it to early 2025. The information spread like wildfire and already had an effect on the Japanese company's stock.

While Nintendo has remained very stable and in green numbers for months, the value of its shares registered a slight drop. This is because, apparently, no one is excited about the Switch's successor arriving until next year.

Industry experts and gamers expect Nintendo to reveal and launch the Switch's successor sometime this year. Previously, expectations for the console caused Nintendo's stock to rise in value; however, new reports had the opposite effect.

After reaching an all-time high due to the huge success of Switch, Nintendo's stock value fell 5.8%. This was due to various sources indicating that its next hardware will not be released this year.

Despite the drop, Nintendo's numbers remain very healthy and are at one of their best moments since 2020. Various analysts believe that the outlook for the company could become more complicated due to the hardware transition that awaits it.

The arrival of Switch 2 in 2025 makes sense, as Shuntaro Furukawa, president of the company, recently reaffirmed that its core business for this year will be Switch. On the other hand, Nintendo reportedly decided to delay its new console to ensure a compelling library of games for launch.

As of this writing, Nintendo has not commented on the Switch 2 reports or its stock drop. Nor has it confirmed that it plans to unveil new hardware in the coming months, so it's best to wait for official word.
