Diablo IV: Blizzard sells a mount that costs more than the game itself

Blizzard Entertainment is one of the most prestigious studios in the video game industry; however, in recent years, it has been involved in numerous controversies due to problematic releases and the monetization model of its latest titles. Diablo IV was unable to avoid criticism and is now making headlines for the wrong reasons.

The franchise became controversial in 2022 due to the release of Diablo Immortals, a free-to-play title that angered the community due to the excessive price of its items. Blizzard had to respond to the criticisms and clarify that the numerical installment will steer away from monetization systems common in mobile games.

Unfortunately, Diablo IV received harsh criticism precisely due to its business model. Now, the community has been very critical and lashed out against the development studio for the price of a new mount.

Players criticize Diablo IV microtransactions

As part of the release of the 1.3.2 update for the dungeon crawler, Blizzard Entertainment launched the Vitreous Scourge bundle, which includes a mount, 7000 platinum, and other items. The problem is that the bundle costs $64.99 USD or $1299 MXN, more than the game itself.

To provide context, the Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV costs $59.99 USD on the PlayStation Store, $1999 MXN on the Xbox store, and $1199 MXN on Steam. In fact, the standard version of the game is priced at $839.40 MXN on the Valve platform.

Players lamented this situation because the exclusive mount, which turns the horse into a creature covered in shiny crystals, can only be acquired through the Vitreous Scourge bundle. Now, it's worth clarifying this information.

The 7200 platinum costs $64.97 when purchased separately. This means that, technically, users buying the Vitreous Scourge bundle get an equivalent amount of platinum and, in addition, a free mount. We must remember that other mounts cost $18 USD each.

So, technically, the pack offers an approximate $83 USD in value; however, players point out that the special mount is only included in that bundle, so they have to spend $64.99 USD to obtain it. Similarly, some criticize the fact that cosmetic items cost more than the game itself.

The truth is that this is not the first controversy that Diablo IV has sparked due to its controversial monetization system. A few days ago, fans criticized the Dark Pathways bundle, which costs $29.99 USD and includes skins for portals.

But tell us, do you think the game's microtransactions have gone out of control? Let us know in the comments.
