Why hasn't Call of Duty debuted on Xbox Game Pass? Phil Spencer explains

It's only a matter of time before the popular franchise debuts on the service

The purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft strengthened Xbox like never before. The brand now has Call of Duty in its hands, one of the most profitable franchises in the industry that can boost Xbox Game Pass like never before.

However, months have passed since the acquisition was finalized and there is still no news about the arrival of the saga to the service. Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, knows that there are gamers worried about this, so he explained why Call of Duty is still off the platform.

Xbox explains why Call of Duty is not yet coming to Game Pass

Many gamers are wondering why Xbox has been slow to add Call of Duty games to Game Pass, as it's clear they will boost the number of subscribers to the popular service. While we know that the saga will arrive sooner or later to the platform, there is still no estimated date for it.

Fortunately, Spencer already explained why Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games are not yet available on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass or Xbox Cloud Gaming. It all boils down to technical challenges that they are already working on.

The company's goal is to have Activision Blizzard games arrive simultaneously on the service for consoles and PC. To do that it needs to do a little extra work to ensure everything runs smoothly at launch. "We're doing the back-end work to make them come to PC and console simultaneously," Phil Spencer confirmed.

As you can imagine, this takes time and it's not yet clear when installments of the FPS franchise and other Activision Blizzard series will start arriving on the service. The company's first major game to arrive on Xbox Game Pass will be Diablo IV, which is already scheduled for March.
