A few days ago, details came to light about an interesting project from Microsoft to optimize PC gaming performance through artificial intelligence. We now know that the tool is real and is called DirectSR. It is an API that will take advantage of AI scaling technologies owned by Nvidia, AMD and Intel. Thus, PC gamers will have at their disposal the best options to optimize their gaming experience in a simple way.

DirectSR is a tool that will be in the hands of developers and will serve to integrate scaling technologies such as Nvidia's DLSS, AMD's FidelityFX and Intel's XeSS. Games that take advantage of this solution will have artificial intelligence enhancements.

According to Microsoft, the use of its API will offer a smoother and more efficient experience for gamers. This will also benefit developers, as everything indicates that they will not have to implement each technology separately.

"This API enables multi-vendor SR [super resolution] through a common set of inputs and outputs, allowing a single code path to activate a variety of solutions including Nvidia DLSS Super Resolution, AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution, and Intel XeSS," the company explained.

Initial reports revealed that this was a tool with support for Windows 11. Initially it was believed that it was going to be Microsoft's answer to the aforementioned technologies, but in reality it is an add-on. For now, there is no exact date for its release.

On the other hand, it was said that the function would be available on devices with an NPU or Neural Processing Unit, which are specific processors for everything related to artificial intelligence. However, there are no new details on the matter for now.
