The video game industry is going through critical moments. In the first months of 2024, thousands of people lost their jobs, and it seems that the negative trend will continue. Just this week, Electronic Arts announced the layoffs of almost 700 employees and the cancellation of projects. In the midst of this unfortunate situation, some good news reassured fans.

On February 28, EA revealed that it laid off 670 employees, representing 5% of its workforce. Additionally, it confirmed the closure of the studio working on a single-player Battlefield proposal and the cancellation of a Star Wars game developed by Respawn Entertainment.

In the statement, the company mentioned plans to distance itself from licensed games to focus on its intellectual properties, although there are still third-party IP games in the pipeline. Shortly after this news broke, a studio turned to its social media to reassure the community.

"Last week was tough for the industry, and even more so because of our close relationships with the teams at Respawn. But for those asking, we are still working hard, and our game was not affected by last week's news," reads the statement.

Regarding the canceled project in the saga, there were rumors that it was an FPS (The Mandalorian) that would allow players to step into the shoes of a space bounty hunter. In the midst of that disappointing situation, Electronic Arts confirmed that the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi franchise is still on track.
