Highly anticipated titles like TEKKEN 8 and Persona 3 Reload lived up to the community's expectations; however, it's undeniable that the biggest surprises of the year are, at least for now, in the indie and AA scene. Fortunately, a new audience will be able to enjoy one of the best titles of the season.
We're talking about Balatro, an intriguing indie game that elegantly combines poker with typical roguelike elements. The result is outstanding, and it's easy to say that we're facing one of the most celebrated releases of the first months of 2024.
Balatro is coming to mobile devices, confirms LocalThunk
This title from developer LocalThunk and publisher Playstack made its debut on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in late February. Although it was temporarily removed from stores due to a rating issue, it gradually returned to digital platforms.
The poker roguelike received praise for its addictive gameplay, with some even joking that they have trouble putting it down. Now, it will be even harder to distance oneself from it as it will eventually arrive on mobile devices.
In a Reddit question and answer session, developer LocalThunk and publisher Playstack confirmed that they are working on iPhone and Android versions of the indie game. The downside is that they didn't provide any further information, so it's unknown when the ports will be available.

"If we have any announcements about this, we will post them on our Discord and Twitter," the publisher said in response to a fan.
Balatro is one of the best games of 2024
Due to its unique concept, this indie proposal likely went unnoticed by many, yet it's one of the biggest releases of the year.
According to reports, Balatro made $1,000,000 USD in its first 8 hours on the market and sold 500,000 copies in 10 days. It peaked at 37,977 concurrent users on Steam, highlighting its immense popularity. Its commercial success goes hand in hand with critical acclaim.
The project by LocalThunk and Playstack boasts an average rating of 90 points on Metacritic and already has the Must Play seal of approval. Currently, it's the second highest-rated game of the year, only behind the acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. On Steam, it holds extremely positive reviews.

But tell us, did you give this indie game a try?
