Platinum trophy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is impossible to obtain due to a bug

There's a workaround to avoid the glitch, but not all players can employ it

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth just hit its 1-month mark since its release and stands as one of the top exclusives for PlayStation 5. Many players have invested dozens of hours exploring Midgar, but unfortunately, all those aiming for the platinum trophy are left disappointed.

Completing the latest action RPG from Square Enix is a monumental task, as it may take hundreds of hours to unlock the entire story and its side quests, but the ultimate reward is the platinum trophy of the title.

The bad news is there's a bug preventing players from achieving it.

Why can't the platinum trophy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth be obtained?

To unlock the platinum trophy of the title, it's necessary to unlock the gold trophy My Job Here Is Done, for which you need to unlock the side mission Can't Stop Won't Stop, accessible only upon obtaining the Ultimate Party Animal card.

The unfortunate news is that those attempting to break the record in the G-Bike simulation arcade, necessary to obtain the Ultimate Party Animal card, won't be able to do so because a bug is preventing the records from being registered. This means players cannot obtain the card.

As reported by Kotaku, this is due to the latest game patch (Version 1.020) including a bug preventing the score from being registered in the minigame.

How to fix the bug preventing the platinum trophy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

The bug cannot be fixed. Therefore, users currently cannot obtain the platinum trophy unless they haven't updated the title (only possible by playing offline). Users who purchased their digital copy after the latest patch wouldn't have a way to bypass the bug, as the title is downloaded according to the latest available version.

However, there's a workaround that allows players to obtain the platinum trophy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

Users will have to uninstall the game while retaining a save file and ensure it's before reaching the minigame. Then, it will be necessary to disconnect the console from the Internet, insert the disc, and install the game, which will install the factory version, free from this bug, thus enabling players to register their record in the minigame and obtain their platinum trophy.

The drawback is that this workaround only works for physical copies, as digital ones, while also uninstallable, upon re-downloading and installing, will show the latest version and not the original, something only possible with physical copies.

So far, Square Enix hasn't addressed this bug and hasn't mentioned when they'll release a new update or patch to fix this current issue with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

We'll keep you informed.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth debuted on February 29, 2024, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
