One of the recurring problems in multiplayer games are the ever-annoying cheaters and hackers, who use third-party software or exploit glitches to gain a competitive advantage. The developers of Call of Duty are not letting up and recently punished thousands of players.

For years, the development teams behind the Activision franchise have implemented multiple strategies to curb malicious users who break the rules. One of the most significant measures was the inclusion of the RICOCHET anti-cheat system, which debuted in late 2021.

Despite these efforts, the issue persists, and there are still thousands of cheaters getting away with it in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Call of Duty: Warzone matches. Fortunately, the developers are not giving up.

Over 27,000 Call of Duty cheaters and hackers were banned

As reported by Charlie Intel on X (via GameSpot), Activision banned over 27,000 accounts during the weekend of the free period of CoD: Modern Warfare III, which allowed players to access a couple of modes and maps in the multiplayer section.

The security team responsible for the RICOCHET anti-cheat software announced plans to implement new updates in the system. Consequently, more cheater and hacker accounts are expected to be banned in the coming days.

"The RICOCHET team identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of enhanced detection systems. We're moving towards a new set of security updates and anticipate more waves of bans to come," the statement reads.

This recent wave of bans coincides with the launch of Season 3, which introduced new maps and the Capture the Flag mode.

In 2023, developers announced ahead of the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III that they plan to use artificial intelligence to improve detection and banning of cheaters in future franchise titles. Additionally, it was confirmed that RICOCHET will notify players whenever a "problematic player" is detected and expelled.

Despite these measures, cheaters persist and still detract from the experience of thousands of honest players. The problem is so significant that even Joe Rogan expressed his frustration in an episode of his popular podcast.

But tell us, were you one of the affected players? Have you encountered any cheaters in multiplayer matches or in the Battle Royale?
