Source asserts that EA did have plans for a new Dead Space despite the company's denial

Jeff Grubb claimed that the project even had a codename before its development was halted

Dead Space emerged from dormancy last year when Electronic Arts released the remake of the installment that originated the series. Unfortunately, what the project achieved wouldn't be enough to ensure the franchise's continuation, although apparently, the company had plans for it.

After journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that Electronic Arts was working on the remake of Dead Space 2 but had allegedly canceled it after purportedly being disappointed by its sales, the company came out to deny almost immediately, stating that "there is no validity to this story".

This made Grubb appear as a liar or at least that his sources were, and that this time he had disseminated inaccurate information, which was surprising since the journalist is the most accurate source regarding Electronic Arts projects.

Electronic Arts did have intentions to work on the remake of Dead Space 2

Well, after Electronic Arts refuted the alleged cancellation of the Dead Space 2 remake, Grubb wasted no time in reaffirming his information, casting doubt on Electronic Arts' statement and even indicating that the Dead Space remake "was being planned" and had a codename.

"I give you permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says: 'that's not true', but doesn't specify which part of the story it's talking about, well... you know," said Grubb. "[The remake of] Dead Space 2 was definitely being planned. It had a codename. And now they're not doing it anymore."

As if that weren't enough, the also reputable journalist Jason Schreier chimed in, somewhat reinforcing what Grubb said, as he revealed that Electronic Arts had made the decision to abandon all plans regarding Dead Space and put the series on ice for the second time last spring after the company realized that the sales of the original remake didn't meet its expectations, according to sources familiar with the project who spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to these sources, after the release of Dead Space (2023), a small group of developers at EA Motive envisioned plans for not a remake, but a new installment (although both possibilities were considered) for several months, none of which were greenlit and never materialized.

"Since last spring, that team has explored other ideas while the handful of developers who worked on Dead Space moved on to different projects," clarified Schreier.

In case you missed it: EA Motive hinted at the remake of Dead Space 2** with this clue.

What do you think of the alleged cancellation of the Dead Space 2** remake? Do you think another 10 years will pass before the series returns?

The Dead Space remake is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
