For many years, streaming platforms were the perfect substitute for both broadcast and cable television. At the end of the day, the idea of ​​watching series and movies whenever we want and without ads is very attractive; however, the reality is that those services are increasingly resembling traditional TV.

Now, Disney+ could receive a new feature that will be pleasing to people who have trouble choosing the content they want to watch and simply prefer the classic programming model seen on television.

TV-like channels could come to Disney+

According to a report from The Information, Disney plans to introduce new ad-supported channels that will offer a constant stream of content for 24 hours a day, just like on television.

According to internal sources, the idea is for these channels to broadcast thematic content from the company's major brands: from Pixar and National Geographic to Marvel and Star Wars. This is not a new concept, as platforms like Pluto TV and Tubi popularized this format known by its English acronym FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television).

The report indicates that these channels will have ads, but people will still need a Disney+ subscription to enjoy the content. This differs from what happens on Prime Video and the Freevee service, which offers free streaming channels to all users.

It is unknown how and when this feature will arrive on Disney+. The company declined to comment on the matter, so we can only wait for more information to emerge.

Although one of the benefits of streaming platforms is that users can choose the content they want to watch without being subject to schedules and fixed programming, the reality is that a portion of the audience prefers to simply turn on the television and tune in to any program.

According to a report from Bloomberg, viewers spend more time on Tubi than on Peacock, Max, and Paramount+. So it seems that Disney's goal is for viewers to spend more hours on Disney+.
