Games as a service and their reliance on online servers have shifted from being an innovation in gaming to a nightmare for users who have invested in them in one way or another. These types of titles can cease operations at the most unexpected moment, as everything depends on the number of users and the potential for profit. In case there's nothing more to be done and gained, it's all over, and that's what happened with this famous PlayStation game.

Sony Shuts Down Servers of LittleBigPlanet 3 - What Happened?

Sony announced the indefinite closure of servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4, a release that debuted in 2014 and saw its security compromised last January. The official version is that technical issues arose at that time, but the community suggests that it was a hacker attack that affected the game, similar to what happened to the PlayStation 3 version. Unfortunately, LittleBigPlanet 3 is a game inherently dependent on the internet, as user-created platform and puzzle levels were a significant part of it.

Regarding this, Sony states: "Due to ongoing technical issues that caused the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 on PlayStation 4 to be temporarily disconnected in January 2024, the decision has been made to keep the servers offline indefinitely. All online services, including access to other players' creations for LittleBigPlanet 3, are no longer available."

According to the company, the campaign mode and user-created levels locally will still be available when running the game on PS4, but the online experience and interaction with the community have come to an end. While it's mentioned that this is indefinite but not definitive, there is no expectation of server restart as it's not an extremely popular game.
