Disney is working on an adaptation of Kingdom Hearts, according to rumor

While superhero productions strive to stay relevant, adaptations of video games into movies and television have become the new trend. Today more than ever, companies want to bring their franchises to the big or small screen. According to a rumor, it seems that Disney will use Kingdom Hearts to get its slice of the pie.

For those unfamiliar, Kingdom Hearts is an action role-playing game franchise that emerged in 2002 under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura. Over more than 20 years, it has captivated fans with 3 main installments and many, many spin-offs that expanded the narrative and lore.

Kingdom Hearts could have a film or television adaptation

This saga is characterized by bringing together characters from Final Fantasy and the Disney universe, as well as original heroes and villains designed for the multiple installments. Despite featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and many more child-friendly characters, the story can be very melodramatic and hard to follow.

With this in mind, it's noteworthy that, according to a rumor, Walt Disney plans to make an adaptation of the franchise.

This information comes from the popular and controversial insider Daniel Ritchman, also known as DanielRPK. Through a post on his Patreon page (via ScreenTime), he revealed that, according to his sources, the House of Mouse is working on an adaptation of Kingdom Hearts, although he did not specify whether it is a movie or a series. Likewise, it is unknown whether it will be an animated or live-action project.

Although DanielRPK is one of the most recognized informants in the entertainment industry, he has been wrong in the past. Therefore, we recommend taking this information with a grain of salt and waiting for Square Enix and Disney to confirm or deny the rumors.

If the report is accurate, it wouldn't be the first time Disney has tried to bring the story of Kingdom Hearts to another medium. In 2022, director Seth Kearsley shared on his YouTube channel the pilot of an ambitious animated series that never got the green light to proceed with its production.
