Steam users must have and link a PS Network account to play the game

[Helldivers 2 has been one of the most successful and well-received games of the year. However, much of its community is now upset and decided to fill the title with negative reviews on Steam. The reason? A decision by PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios.

By means of a statement, the companies informed that players of the title on Steam will have to link their account on Valve's platform with a PlayStation Network account, without exception. The measure will apply from May 6 for new players.

From May 30, current players of the title will have to log in on a mandatory basis. Subsequently, from June 4, they will have to have their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts linked in order to be able to play the game.

According to details, account linking was optional at launch due to technical issues; however, it will now be a necessary step to play. The developers stated that this measure will annoy some, but will serve to protect players. As expected, the community disagrees.

"This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal,” the companies stated.

Players of Helldivers 2 are upset about account linking

Shortly after the announcement, the game started receiving negative reviews on Steam. In all of them, users express their dissatisfaction and annoyance with the requirement to link accounts to continue playing. Many players criticized PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios for ruining such a successful launch with a measure they consider abusive.

Several fans of the title claimed that they are not willing to open and link a PlayStation Network account when they invested their money on Steam and supported the launch. There are even people claiming that they will abandon the title and if possible, they would ask for a refund.

“I bought this game on Steam with the intention of playing it on Steam. I do not now nor will I ever have a PlayStation account. Forcing players to link or be banned from the game months after launch is unacceptable,” states one of the many negative reviews.
