Stellar Blade: Controversial Costumes Return After Censorship Criticism, Now Available for Free

The new patch of the game introduced the Boss Challenge and new outfits for EVE

Thanks to its fun combat system and high potential context, Stellar Blade received very good ratings and, overall, met fan expectations; however, it was unable to avoid criticism and controversy. Fortunately, one of its biggest controversies has finally come to an end.

As expected, the PlayStation 5 exclusive debuted amidst controversy. Much of the conversation revolved around the appearance of EVE, the protagonist. Before launch, the developers promised that there would be no censorship, which reassured those who feared that the character's costumes and cinematic scenes would undergo significant changes.

However, the community soon discovered that the day one patch slightly modified some of the main character's outfits. Fans expressed their discontent and criticized the developers for allegedly succumbing to censorship; however, SHIFT UP defended the changes, arguing that the new designs correspond to their original vision.

Disappointed fans launched the #FreeStellarBlade campaign and gathered thousands of signatures in an attempt to reverse the changes. While some refunded their copies of Stellar Blade in protest, director Kim Hyung-Tae denied that Sony forced them to modify EVE's designs and assured that the changes were a creative decision.

Uncensored Stellar Blade Outfits Return

Now, almost a month after the official release of the action game, it seems that the controversy has come to an end, and we suspect that many fans will be happy with the resolution.

Recently, SHIFT UP shared the details of patch 1.003, which is now available for free download on PlayStation 5. This new update introduces the highly anticipated Boss Challenge, a special game mode where players can battle against the 19 bosses from the main campaign.

Additionally, the development studio confirmed that the latest Stellar Blade update introduces new outfits with which players can customize EVE's appearance. At that time, they hinted that there would be more surprises, and we finally know what they meant.

Quickly, fans noticed that the latest game update introduces alternate versions of the costumes that were supposedly subject to censorship. True to the SHIFT UP philosophy, the new outfits can be obtained in-game completely free and without the need for microtransactions, although enough resources must be collected to purchase and craft them.

The Midsummer Alice and Midsummer Redhood variants can be purchased in Roxane's store, the merchant who lives in Xion. It's worth noting that these alternate versions do not replace the original costumes, so the "censored" designs remain in Stellar Blade.

But tell us, what do you think of these additions? Did you like EVE's new outfits? Let us know in the comments.

Stellar Blade is available for PlayStation 5.
