riginally announced in 2020, the Assassin’s Creed live-action series was part of a partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft to bring one of gaming’s biggest franchises to a new audience. While the project faced delays and the departure of key creatives, it now has new life — and new leadership.

Assassin’s Creed Netflix Series Gets the Green Light

According to a new Variety report, Netflix has officially greenlit the project, which now has new showrunners: Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo). The creators expressed their excitement and deep admiration for the franchise.

“We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its debut in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we’re honored by the creative possibilities the franchise offers.”

They describe the upcoming adaptation as more than just action and parkour — at its core, it’s a human story about identity, fate, and the importance of connection.

“It’s about power, violence, sex, greed, and revenge. But most importantly, it’s about the value of human connection across cultures and time — and what happens when those connections break.”

Ubisoft and Netflix Team Up With a New Creative Team

Patino and Wiener will collaborate with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Matt O’Toole, producers from Ubisoft Film & Television. The original executive producer, Steven Weintraub (Vikings: Valhalla, Die Hard), left the project in 2023, which had left the show’s future uncertain — until now.

What Will the Netflix Assassin’s Creed Series Be About?

The live-action series will revolve around the age-old conflict between two powerful factions. One group seeks to shape humanity’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights for freedom and free will — a classic theme from the Assassin’s Creed universe.

The show promises to explore key historical events and feature various characters across different time periods. While casting details remain under wraps, Netflix exec Peter Friedlander believes the creative team will deliver something memorable:

“Guided by Roberto Patino and David Wiener, the team has carefully crafted an epic adventure that honors the legacy of Assassin’s Creed and invites both longtime fans and newcomers to experience the Brotherhood like never before.”
