Assassin’s Creed Shadows: One Piece fans criticize the game for a peculiar detail

Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to be surrounded by controversy after several players, reportedly Japanese, called for the games cancellation considering it an insult to their history and culture. The complaints have even reached Japanese politicians, who are looking into the situation.

Now, the game faces another controversy from fans of One Piece, the popular manga and anime by Eiichirō Oda. According to several people, Ubisoft used a replica of a sword belonging to Roronoa Zoro, Luffys loyal companion, to promote the game.

One Piece fans believe Assassin’s Creed Shadows copied Zoros sword

This new controversy began after Ubisoft organized a special exhibition at Japan Expo in France. There, it showcased various items related to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, including the mask and katana of Yazuke. They shared several photos of the exhibit on social media, and one detail caught the attention of several One Piece fans.

According to them, the supposed katana of Kazuke is very similar to one of Zoros weapons. One fan even claimed that the sword on display can be bought in online stores, where it is marketed as a replica of the katana from One Piece.

Fans of the anime and manga argue that the swords base is also a replica of the one seen in Odas franchise. They are convinced of their theory, as the kanji on both bases are exactly the same.

Some One Piece fans are upset about this situation, believing that Ubisoft supposedly plagiarized material from the anime and manga for their game and exhibition. On the other hand, some people think Ubisoft simply needed material for their exhibition, and this sword was the most suitable option, with their team being unaware it was a reference to One Piece.

At the time of writing, Ubisoft has not commented on the criticisms. However, social media users have already added context to various posts, demonstrating that the exhibition sword is sold in online stores as Zoros sword.
