Baldurs Gate 3 arrived and quickly became one of the best games of the year. However, being a title that will go down in history for its immense quality doesnt mean it will be perfect. As evidence, it recently made its way to PlayStation 5, and everything seems to indicate that its too much for Sonys console. The reason? It has significant problems.
As any PC gamer knows, Baldurs Gate 3 is a demanding game, and that didnt change with its arrival on PlayStation 5. There are parts of the game where it suffers from severe performance issues at certain points in the story.
According to an analysis by Digital Foundry, Act 3 of Baldurs Gate 3 is a real challenge for the PlayStation 5 hardware, just as it was for its PC version. In this part, the RPGs frame rate drops to as low as 20 frames per second, accompanied by constant screen tearing that makes it look very poor.
Its important to note that this situation is present in both Performance Mode (60 fps) and Quality Mode (30 fps) of Baldurs Gate 3 on PlayStation 5. This occurs in both single-player and split-screen modes, so it seems that cooperative play doesnt significantly impact performance.
But why do these problems in Baldurs Gate 3 occur in Act 3? Why dont they appear earlier in the game? It turns out that in this part of the game, the density of characters increases, making it more demanding on the hardware. Thus, a combination of processor bottlenecks and some bugs cause these issues.
In the world of PC gaming, theres always the possibility of obtaining more powerful hardware to avoid these problems. Sadly, in the case of PlayStation 5, this is impossible. Therefore, Baldurs Gate 3 will have these issues unless Larian Studios releases a patch that helps mitigate the performance problems in some way.
