In recent statements, the executive affirmed that at Take-Two, they are and will always be very selective when adapting a video game to the big screen. He added that such projects are not essential for the studio; however, they do their best to make them appealing.

On the other hand, he revealed that a poor performance of the movie will not affect Take-Twos finances nor will it change anything related to the future of the franchise in the realm of video games. This will certainly relieve more than one fan, as the film was very poorly received.

Regarding the negative reviews, Zelnick believes that the movie deserves a chance, as it has remarkable elements, and a talented creative team worked on it. For this reason, he invited players to watch it and said he would be paying close attention to their opinions.

"Lets give the film a chance. A lot of people worked really hard on it. The underlying intellectual property is phenomenal, the cast is amazing, I think the look and feel is really terrific. So lets see what audiences have to say. But to answer your question, no, the performance of the film wouldnt have a financial impact on us or on the franchise one way or another," the executive commented.

The film, starring Ariana Greenblatt, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart, was described by critics as a complete disaster and hard to watch. Thus, the Borderlands movie breaks the recent good streak of video game-based adaptations.
