Call of Duty HQ was meant to make life easier by connecting Warzone with the latest entries in the series, all from one hub. The idea sounded solid, but it came with one huge drawback: the launcher’s ridiculous file size. On PlayStation, at least, that headache is finally going away.
For years, installing HQ meant saying goodbye to other AAA games. Even when players could pick and choose which components to download, the space it demanded was far from reasonable. It felt like Activision was asking fans to build their consoles around CoD. Now, after what feels like an eternity of complaints, the community’s prayers have finally been answered.
The latest update slashes the launcher’s size in a big way. On PlayStation 5, patch 01.080.000 cuts HQ down from 126.2 GB to 25.3 GB. That’s a staggering 101 GB freed up with a single update. The PS4 version also drops, though less dramatically, trimming from 81 GB to 62 GB.

For now, there’s no confirmation if PC or Xbox players will get the same relief, but it’s hard not to hope Activision spreads the love.
Why the Sudden Slim-Down?
HQ first launched in 2022 alongside Modern Warfare II as a one-stop hub for the franchise, bundling Warzone with the latest entries. That setup changed on July 29, 2025, when both Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III split off as standalone titles, no longer chained to the launcher. Whether that shake-up is what put HQ on a crash diet is still up in the air.
What fans did notice is the timing. The update arrived only weeks after Battlefield 6 stole the spotlight with its open beta in early August. To many players, it looks like Activision finally decided to trim the fat before DICE’s shooter stole away too much attention.
