Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continues to captivate players with its exceptional quality and remains one of the top contenders for GOTY 2025. Its immense popularity has sparked curiosity about its creators, leading players to uncover a surprising fact: the RPG’s director runs a YouTube channel.

Back in 2019, Guillaume Broche launched a channel called Donpoko, where he posted just five videos. But those few clips were enough to reveal his hardcore gamer credentials and his affinity for Devil May Cry. The community was amazed not only due to the discovery, but because Broche’s gameplay was outstanding, showcased in perfect runs of Devil May Cry V.

Watching him play Devil May Cry V makes it obvious he committed to mastering the game’s complex mechanics. His perfect runs, including defeating Virgil without taking damage, showcase his dedication.

He clearly invested many hours practicing, with some videos showing SSS scores, even during the final boss fight. Other clips reveal him taking down bosses with pinpoint accuracy while dodging all attacks.

Oddly enough, Broche only ever uploaded Devil May Cry content, and eventually stopped posting. The community was still blown away by his skills and believes he’s likely just as skilled in other action games.

Below is one of his videos—be mindful of spoilers if you haven’t played Devil May Cry V yet.

A Strong GOTY Contender

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been widely praised by critics and players alike, boasting a Metacritic critic score of 91 and a user score of 9.7. This places it among the platform’s highest-rated games and a serious contender for Game of the Year.

The game was born from the ambitions of Tom Guillermin, François Meurisse, Guillaume Broche, Nicholas Maxson-Francombe, and others who left Ubisoft in 2022 to form Sandfall Interactive. Their goal was to develop a standout turn-based RPG—and they succeeded.

Beyond its genre contributions, the game highlights the potential of indie and AA productions, challenging the notion that only blockbuster budgets can deliver something truly special.
